IUI is a suitable option for couples with unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility such as slightly low sperm count or motility, cervical mucus issues that prevent sperm from reaching the egg, and women using donor sperm. It may also be combined with ovulation-stimulating medication to improve success rates.
The IUI Process
The procedure begins with ovarian monitoring to track follicle development. On the day of ovulation, the male partner provides a sperm sample which is then processed in the laboratory to concentrate the healthiest, most motile sperm. The prepared sample is inserted into the uterus using a thin, flexible catheter. The procedure takes only a few minutes and most patients experience minimal discomfort.
